WEDNESDAY 26/6/13

I questioned Rohan today over viber.. “How many times can I say that an experience we have had here has been so emotional & inspiring!!! Today has truly been another one.“
And his answer: “That’s what you are there for… To experience such once in a lifetime events and moments!!”
He’s right of course, but I had no idea that our adventure would or could have so many memorable highlights.

On each visit, Yad Vashem teaches us something more about the Holocaust. One can read, one can be told, but each time the shock cuts deeper, the heroes seem more heroic, & the survivors become more awe inspiring. We can never forget & we can never let this happen again!
Jeffrey’s account of today’s visit follows this post below.
The new exhibition honoring the 50th anniversary of the righteous amongst the nations, was opened today. “I AM my brothers keeper". The darkened rooms with lighted stars on the walls (the righteous were like stars), fragmented letters forming profound sayings relating to these courageous Gentiles, then defragmenting again into stars, while 5 five different themed films played on triple-screens around the room. Seeming to be so simple, so thoughtfully put together, so emotional!
In the smallish theatre, we were seated in the 3rd row, in front of the Ambassadors of many countries, behind the families of the major donors of the exhibition, & almost beside Rabbi Lau, a child survivor who went on to become chief Rabbi of Israel, & who is now the chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv, & the Chairman of Yad Vashem.

“What harms the victims most is not the cruelty of the oppressor but the silence of the bystander" - Elie Wiesel

Earlier in the day, we had picked up Judy from her new apartment in Modi’in, to take her with us. After we left Yad Vashem, we took her home before heading back to TLV. Their new apartment is great. Modi’in is a new city & they have a great 4 bedroom 6 year old apartment, with a large balcony, beautiful view & all mod cons. We are so happy for her.
