SATURDAY 22/6/13

Longest day of the year here & shortest at home.

Spent the day relaxing after a very hectic week.
The weather was hot & the beach was busy although not as packed as I would have expected.
Late in the afternoon we went down to the pool for a dip, which was refreshing. The pool was very busy today & we were trying to work out if the people were residents of the apartments.
After our showers, we walked the nearly 3 kms to the Bloomfield Stadium in Jaffa for the Barbra Streisand concert. It was her 100th ever concert & it was fantastic. The stadium was packed & we had great tickets in the 34th row, almost middle, on the field. She performed magnificently with a magic voice & no distracting lights or dancers etc. Pure Barbra!
Interesting to note that she has a teleprinter with all the words high up opposite the stage. Apparently she forgot the song words many years ago in a concert & refused to perform for 27 years after that.
My only disappointment was that she didn’t sing Avinu Malkeinu. People were calling out for it, but she said they didn’t have the music.
My highlights were, Evergreen from A Star is Born (one of my favorite all time songs) & Hatikva ( emotional & thrilled to hear her sing it in Israel).
The concert finished just before midnight. We walked home via the Tachana, hoping to get something to eat but everything was closing. So we settled for icecream from cnr Allenby. It was very late & still 26 degrees at 1am.
