I never thought I would ever stand in a nuclear accelerator or a nuclear reactor, but today we did both! After leaving TA this morning at 10, we arrived in Jerusalem, dropped our bags at King David Residence & walked across the road to David Citadel to register for the President’s Conference.
Without taking a breath we boarded one of four buses for a tiyul to SOREQ NUCLEAR RESEARCH CENTRE. The security was massive. We had to show our passports, they put special stickers on the front & back cameras of our phones & then we had to leave absolutely everything on the buses. What a powerful almost five hours we spent. After lunch there, we were guided around most of the facility (lots of nuclear physics which I didn’t understand). We came in 4 buses & they divided us into small groups. We had to wear disposable lab coats when we went into the reactor. Then they took a photo of our group in front of it.
But what impressed me a lot was the youth, intellectual achievements & national pride that these people aspire to. It was an amazing tour!
A BBQ followed at Chavat Allenby to open the conference, where 2 Sydney women received Keren Hayesod International Women’s division awards.
Then back to Jerusalem by bus. Midnight! A really long but interesting day!
