THURSDAY 13/6/13

4am the alarm woke us up & we went down to say Nessiah Tova to Rohan & Kate. I was trying to keep my emotions in check & I think I almost succeeded. The two weeks with them went much too quickly. Anyway, I know that they have an exciting time ahead of them.
After trying to go back to sleep, & dozing on & off, we got up & started the day. It was weird being here by ourselves after almost 6 weeks of family house guests.
R&K had a few hiccups with flights, but fortune was with them, & they arrived in Santorini by lunchtime.

We headed off north on a drive about midday, with our first stop the artists’ village of Ein Hod. We’d been here before but were disappointed this time. We wanted to go from there to the Druze village Daliat El Carmel, but we hadn’t had lunch & thought it best to drop in to Tishbi once again in Zichron Yaakov, where we knew the food was great. And it was!
So from there we drove to the Druze village which was interesting. We had a walk around & then drove back to TA, arriving exhausted after 7pm.

But that’s not all.. We had arrangements to go out with Lea Eizik, Zev’s sister. So after a quick shower & deep breath, off we went. She took us to the undesirable, derelict & deserted 5th floor of the old/new Tachana merkasit.
In a falling down old shop which housed many hundreds of dusty old Yiddish books, an odd assortment of people sat on an odd assortment of pieces of furniture, to listen to an even stranger assortment of people, sing mainly in yiddish, and/or make some music like sounds on strange objects such as a saw. It was quite bizarre! But I have to say it was very different to anything we had ever experienced before. The saving factor of the evening was the delicious ice cream we had (for dinner) after a quite interesting driving tour of TA.
What had appeared to start as a quiet day, ended up a full on & unusual adventure!
