SATURDAY 8/6/13

Waking up in Jerusalem on Shabbat is a lovely feeling.
Jeffrey & Rohan spent the morning at the Great Synagogue which they said was almost full. While Kate went for a walk, I relaxed with my iPad & photos. Brunch on our balcony overlooking the city preceded a leisurely walk through the old city to the Kotel, while R&K caught up with some friends.
We made a Sue Super Salad for dinner so that we could leave for the Old City once again for the Light Spectacular at the Tower of David which is a wonderful projection of Jerusalem’s history on the walls. It is so beautifully done (I think that is an understatement). Even though it’s the 2nd time I’ve seen it, I still loved every minute of it. Judy came after Shabbat & joined us for the evening’s activities.
This week also is the Jerusalem Festival of Light which is a massive celebration of light throughout the Old City. There are 3 different routes each color coded by strings of lights to lead the way. And along each route, there are different lighting installations with appropriate music accompaniment. So there was plenty of walking done & so much to see. But most of all there were many thousands of people everywhere we went, right up till they turned the lights off at midnight. We walked back to the Jaffa gate after that along the Arab Shuk in the dark. It wasn’t so comfortable but luckily we had iPhones for light to guide us.
We stopped at Aroma for icecream & drinks in the Mamilla arcade which was still pumping with people even though by this stage it was 1am!! We were delirious with exhaustion but what a great day we had!
